Sacred Heart Geeveston

2010 | Geeveston, Tasmania, Australia | Education

Located in the heart of the Huon Valley, Tasmania, and on the site of the existing Sisters of St. Joseph Convent, this project has been an exemplar for the Catholic Education Office in terms of its transition from traditional teaching methods to an entirely open plan delivery of pedagogy.

Through a highly collaborative process with the School, a custom design for the Josephite Learning Centre was created – featuring open-plan teaching and resource spaces with state-of-the-art technology, as well as the refurbishment works of all classrooms.

The metaphor for the design was based on the strong links with the Geeveston community and the spirituality of the Catholic ethos.

The open plan nature has provided opportunities to foster community links with the provision of spaces that can easily assume multiple functions.

Every façade of the building also enjoys connection with the outdoor environment with learning terraces and windows throughout.
