Orizuru House

As part of a series of 7 houses on Dalvey Estate, situated on a unique triangular plot, the Ortsuru House frames the site in 2 wings.  Originally conceived as a continuation of the Winged House inspired by Japanese origami crane, these wing forms fold and open towards the old family home of the client partially preserved as part of the memory and heritage.  The form is further enhanced to amplify and exaggerate the architecture, and expression becomes expressionism.

In response to the tropical climatic condition, the formal exploration turns to the folding wings of the origami crane and traditional Malay architecture (minankebau) for inspiration. Overlapping trapezoidal planes splits into three and pulled apart, to generate ventilation, to admit clerestory light and to dramatically re-impose a regional expression of tropicality.
