The Moated House
A continuous water body was carved to surround the home, creating a boundary and this becomes a spatial organization strategy and experiential element to address owner’s fear of pest. In response to tropical climate, the upper floor is wrapped in an aluminium screen which mitigates entry of heat and light, and the ground floor is set in a deep overhang.A central courtyard is orientated along the North South axis to coincide with Singapore’s prevailing winds. The internal court is permeated by rain and sunlight from time to time, allowing the rhythms of weather to be felt within protected setting.
