Arcadia Apartments

2015 | Melbourne, Victoria, Australia | Multi-Residential

Facing the Chadstone shopping centre, the brief for Arcadia was to create a number of affordable apartments to this largely suburban area.

Located on the bustling Dandenong Road, our design was inspired by the different interactions Arcadia’s group of 25 apartments would have with passers-by. The experience of speed and traffic on this main road is juxtaposed with the quieter, lower scale residential character found on the adjacent side streets. These two unique personas both manifest in the building’s façade.

The materiality and larger scale of the 3-storey façade that faces Dandenong Road takes on a more commercial massing. Standing in direct contrast, softer timber cladding decorates the residential side of Arcadia.

Our design attempts to breakdown the magnitude of the building. The use of timber supports the recessive nature of the balconies.

Internally, the earthy palette of laminates and timber flooring create a neutral palette, allowing for creativity and personalisation.
