SIA Architectural Design Awards 2020: 399 Little Lonsdale Street

We’re proud to have been awarded the SIA Architectural Merit Award by Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) for 399 Little Lonsdale St. 399 is a hotel tower rising 38-storeys out of Melbourne’s CBD – right in its inner grid of laneways, alleys and arcades. In this quintessentially Melburnian located veined with culture and character, we felt it was important that 399 fitted in purposefully and meaningfully as a new neighbour.

The building aims to engage with the city at a street level, at a building level, from near and from far. Its quiet confidence does not hark back to style, but seeks to provide a timeless and ever relevant mirror of the fabric of Melbourne.

“The Jury applauds the project, as it is a thoughtful urban intervention that achieves a good ground and podium design with sensitivity to street scale and maintains a connection to and within the city. This is in keeping with the city’s unique characteristics of laneways. The tower, with a façade designed in an attempt to disguise the transition of floors, was found to be simple yet sleek.”
