The orientation of the plots is along the North-South direction, with the prevalent wind in the East-West direction.  The building blocks are kept as slender forms, with enlarged openings along these 2 faces to achieve maximum ventilation. The resulting longitudinal building surfaces are subjected to the Eastern and Western sun.

In order to reduce glare and direct exposure to the harsh daylight, a unifying feature wall along the western axis was conceived as a filter. A warm textured stone plays on the natural effect of light and shadow in varying intensities. With the addition of openings in the stone, the feature wall acts as a screen in certain areas, allowing controlled views from external to internal.

The same material that was carved out was manipulated and re-orientated to create vertical fins. Like a sundial, these vertical fins catch daylight and cast moving shadows as the day goes by. Large overhangs are also developed to shield the building from direct sunlight.

The master bedroom on the 2nd storey is pushed out from the surface of the feature wall in order to gain views to the pool. However, privacy is not compromised with the use of operable screens at the same time providing a juxtaposition of different materiality from the granite feature wall that serves as a background
