Covenant Evangelical Free Church

Singapore | Community, Coming Soon

The design of the church is user-centric, working together closely with the Church to craft a vision that intimately understands the aspirations, needs and hopes of the Church and the community. A vision that is empathetically translated through design to craft spaces that are tailor made to facilitate authentic discipleship & intentional disciple- making.

Iconography allows the church to be a BEACON – A town built on a hill (that) cannot be hidden – Matthew 5:14-16. Its subtlety does not shout but instead gathers intrigue; A stoic statement that is personal and fits in with the scale of the neighbourhood.

Eroding the edges of the site through landscape design provides opportunities for users to enter the space at a human scale. Soft barriers with landscaping are utilized in order to maintain the permeability of the ground floor, inviting the community in with its openness.

As a church building nestled amongst the HDB context, all facades become opportunities to speak and reach to the community. Thus each one is designed to be welcoming, to generate intrigue, to be a dialogue between inside and outside.

Designed to be maintainable & sustainable, each façade works to deal with the elements and eccentricities
of the tropical climate by employing natural ventilation, greenery and energy efficient & carbon sensitive materials.

Utilising pockets of green & filtered lighting, key spaces are designed to provide respite within the joyful, vibrancy of the church. Every detail, from seating arrangements to lighting, is meticulously crafted to enhance spiritual connection. The sanctuary becomes a vessel for shared moments of reflection, prayer and celebration.
High Visual Connectivity between spaces allows for a ‘collage’ of young and old from all walks of life to come together in the layered space. Spatially creating opportunities for the diversity of the church to flourish.
