K2LD, in collaboration with JAWS Architects, is proud to announce that Brighton High School has been shortlisted in the 2025 INDE.Awards under The Learning Space category. This recognition celebrates our commitment to crafting educational environments that are both innovative and deeply connected to their cultural and ecological contexts.
Situated on the land of the Leenowwenne people, the design of Brighton High School honours the site’s rich heritage, particularly its relationship with the Jordan River / kutalayna—a historical boundary between the Big River and Oyster Bay nations. The campus is thoughtfully organised into two interdependent precincts that converge at a central landscaped ‘Learning Street’, fostering a sense of community and connection.
Drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscapes, the Learning Community buildings reflect the hills and cliffs of the Big River nation, while the Admin, DATS, and PAPE buildings embody the rocky coastal landscapes of the Oyster Bay nation. A mature material palette and flexible spatial planning support a variety of learning modalities, from collaborative ‘watering-hole’ zones to intimate ‘campfire’ group areas and quiet ‘cave’ study pods.
This project exemplifies our dedication to creating learning spaces that inspire creativity, adaptability, and a profound sense of belonging.
