Drawing inspiration from minimalist Japanese aesthetic and Scadivanian practicality in design, the renovation of this old property unleashed a new lease of life with a breath of fresh air. Measured and precise calibration was needed to perform the surgical renewal of an otherwise tired run-of-the-mill semi-detached dwelling. (see neigbouring house). New aluminium roof and windows squared off to give the house a modern and contemporary feel.
Light colored oak panels are used throughout the house with carefully crafted lighting strategy to accentuate the lines and texture.
Sliding panels with rhythmic intervals are employed as a visual device to mask the hidden TV console, bar and passage way up the strairs. The result of the refurbishment is one of warmth and serenity. Its quiet confidence does not hark back to style, but seeks to provide a much needed calm sanctuary for the home owner.
