A 2-storey residential house with a swimming pool is a shelter for a family of five. The owner was seeking an open space at the heart of the house that could house many different activities at the same time. A flexible ground plan was devised with the main living spaces open towards the swimming pool & patio and the rear courtyard, allowing for activities to ‘spill-over’ from the internal spaces.

The house is perceived as 3 hovering masses sitting atop a glass box. The 2 wings on both sides are rendered with the same materials – a composition of stacked slate feature wall, sleek C-profile steel channel and very finely spaced timber screens. In contrast, the center block is cladded in teak and boasts a articulated solid teak screen which is set in from the 2 protruding blocks. Very thin roof planes shelter each of the masses at a different angle on plan, distorting the perspective and creating a dynamic interplay of floating roof projections from the house.
