Local families are a step closer to having a new state-of-the-art secondary college campus, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino today announced construction firm ADCO had commenced work on the first stage of the project this week.

The new campus includes a four-storey building with contemporary learning spaces and a gymnasium for students to stay active and will accommodate 650 students.

A future second stage will add facilities to further expand capacity to 1100 students.

Once completed the new campus will incorporate modernised learning spaces as well as facilities for the broader community to use.

The new campus will help meet the growing demand for enrolments at the school and alleviate the pressure on its existing campus.

The new campus will be one of seven vertical schools and campuses rolled out by the Labor Government since 2017. Others include South Melbourne Primary School, Richmond High School and Prahran High School with Docklands Primary School and Fitzroy Gasworks currently under construction.

Updated school zoning will be released at start of 2021, with the new campus expected to open by Term 1 2022.

The Labor Government has invested $6.1 billion to deliver more than 1,400 school upgrades and supporting more than 7,500 construction jobs for Victorians.

Under the Labor Government’s school building boom, a total of 100 new schools will open by 2026, ensuring every child can access a great local school where students can achieve their best.
